What is Romney Cross?

The Romney sheep originated in England and is a "long wool" breed that produces a heavy fleece with a higher fiber diameter, noted for strength and twist.  This is ideal for hand-spinning and use for in sweaters and bulky items such as hats and gloves.  By cross breeding Romney with "fine wool" breeds, such as Lincoln, Corriedale or Merino the offspring produce a fabulous blend of softness, strength, length of fiber, and luster.

We bred our own sheep for many years in rural Arizona, specializing in Romney Cross sheep and products.  Most of our 2016 featured roving and yarns are from our Romney Cross sheep, and hand processed and spun.  We have made sweaters, scarfs, hats, gloves and many other great wool products for ourselves and others over the years.  Look at our patterns page for free plans or ideas for products you might want to produce using these wools.
